Case Study | The Lord Mayor's Show

Our work in Central London has taken us to iconic locations, from Oxford & Regent Street to Leicester & Trafalgar Square.

When AD Health & Safety asked us to support them in the City of London, we jumped at the opportunity.

Playing a part in such a complex event in the historic Square Mile was a true highlight for the team.

Our remit was to manage the event site and ensure infrastructure was in place at key points along the parade route.

With over 7,000 people in the parade travelling through 5 kilometres of London’s streets, the installation had to be planned comprehensively.

With a proven track record in rapid builds and de-rigs for road closure events, the team focused on leveraging their experience to make improvements wherever possible.

When taking on a new project, our primary aim was to understand the decision-making process before implementing improvements.

During multiple fact-finding site visits, access was gained to invaluable information, which enabled necessary adjustments to be made.

The expertise of the City of London staff and longstanding event suppliers proved crucial, leading to productive planning and boosting our confidence when the build began.

One of AD Health and Safety’s key objectives for the event was to centralise the information held by stakeholders and established suppliers.

In collaboration with the Pageantmaster and the City of London, a unified site map has been developed to account for all aspects of the physical infrastructure.

This process enables any gaps in planning to be identified year after year. Once finalised, the map serves as the single point of reference for the event management team during the live event.

For the live TV broadcast of the Lord Mayor’s Show, close collaboration took place with the broadcaster to ensure optimal camera placements.

By prioritising public space and strategically positioning key camera spots, essential infrastructure was set up overnight, enabling the camera team to capture footage on schedule.

De-rig efficiency was improved by removing the gantry during the day instead of following the usual overnight schedule. This adjustment also eliminated the need for an overnight road closure, reducing the event’s impact compared to previous years.

The staff on the ground are challenged to capture every detail of the day, ensuring a complete picture of the event once it’s over.

With such a large event footprint, it was crucial for the team to take extensive notes, time-checks, and photos to document all areas of the site.

In addition to the TV coverage, the footage gathered by the team provides detailed evidence that will assist in planning for future events.
