Our work in Central London has given us experience in iconic parts of the capital, from Oxford Street to Trafalgar Square.
When AD Health & Safety asked us to support them in the City of London it was an offer we took up in a flash.
We relished playing our part in a hugely complex event, working on such a historic event in the Square Mile gave everyone on the team a real kick.
Our remit was to site manage the event footprint and ensure that infrastructure at key points of the parade route was in place for the procession.
With over 7,000 people in a parade passing through 5 kilometres of London’s streets the installation had to be meticulously planned.
With a proven track record of rapid build and de-rigs for road closure events we were determined to make improvements wherever we could.
When undertaking a new project, the primary aim is to understand the decision-making before making improvements.
On the many fact-finding site visits we were given access to huge amounts of information that enabled us make improvements where necessary.
The knowledge of the City of London staff and longstanding event suppliers was invaluable and made for very productive planning and gave great confidence when the build commenced.
One of AD Health and Safety’s key objectives was to centralise the information held by stakeholders and established suppliers.
Working with the Pageantmaster and the City of London we created a unified site map that accounted for all aspects of the physical infrastructure.
The process enabled the team to pinpoint any gaps in the planning. Once complete, the map became a single point of reference for the event management team during the live event.
With the Lord Mayor’s Show being shown on live TV, we tied in with the broadcaster to ensure that their camera team had the perfect platform to operate.
When designing the layout of the key area we gave maximum space to the public whilst positioning the best camera spots.
Once the layout was agreed we put essential site infrastructure in place for the overnight camera installation. This granted the camera team enough time on the morning to capture footage bang on schedule.
We always challenge our staff on the ground to record the day in as much detail as possible so we have a full picture of the entire event once the dust has settled.
With such a large event footprint it was crucial that our team took many notes, time-checks and photos so that all parts of the site were recorded.
Aside from the TV coverage, the footage taken by our team provided extremely detailed evidence and we hope it will aid planning for future years.
